Many people learn and/or use only the Short Version of EFT, probably because it is often effective on its own. Even Gary Craig (the developer of EFT) has been using the short version of the technique for the past few years. If you watch closely, however, you will see him insert the 9-Gamut once in a while. Personally, I use the gamut spot when tapping for myself, I teach the 9-Gamut procedure to my students and clients, and I try to include it at least once during a session. How do you know when and why to tap the Gamut Point? First, let me explain a bit about what the Gamut Point is and what it affects in the energy system. The Gamut Point is the 3rd point on the Triple Warmer meridian. It is paired with the Spleen meridian (the EFT Under the Arm point). The Triple Warmer turns on the fight/flight stress response when it feels threatened. Unfortunately, in our culture, Triple Warmer often turns on when it doesn’t need to, treating anything it doesn’t understand as an enemy. When Triple Warmer goes into overdrive, it first pulls energy from the Spleen meridian… and then from every other meridian, affecting the Heart meridian last. I remember being at an Energy Medicine intensive where the audience was asking Donna Eden the cause of different conditions… and she kept answering “Triple Warmer - Spleen imbalance.” Asked about the cause of food allergies, or allergies in general, Donna answered, “Triple Warmer – Spleen imbalance.” Fear and depression? “Triple Warmer – Spleen imbalance.” Blood sugar problem? Candida? “Triple Warmer – Spleen imbalance.” MS? Arthritis? Shingles? “Triple Warmer – Spleen imbalance.” Thyroid problems? Chronic fatique syndrome? “Triple Warmer Spleen imbalance.” Sore throat? Any sort of infection? “Triple Warmer – Spleen imbalance.” Stress, pain or tension? “Triple Warmer – Spleen imbalance.” Overindulging in anything, including compulsive overeating? Triple Warmer – Spleen imbalance.” How about hot flashes? Hormonal changes? You got it… "Triple Warmer – Spleen imbalance.” I began to better understand that Triple Warmer – Spleen energy imbalances are behind many problems. And how important the Gamut procedure is when addressing those issues with EFT. Even though theoretically, tapping on the Under the Arm point (the Spleen Meridian) will balance the Triple Warmer – Spleen energies, sometimes specifically targeting the Triple Warmer via the Gamut point is more effective. Students of mine even report that simply rubbing the Gamut point during the day when they feel threatened, stressed or angry calms their automatic, previously uncontrollable, response. So when to use the 9-Gamut during an EFT session? • When addressing any of the above, including stress of any sort. • When you feel you have hit the root of the problem. • When the Shortcut Procedure is not effective. • When SUDs get stuck, the Gamut will often get you to a zero. • When you notice soreness at either the Under the Arm point or the Gamut point. After doing the full 9-Gamut procedure, including the eye exercises and the humming and counting once during a session, just doing the floor-to-ceiling eye roll while tapping on the Gamut point is usually an effective substitute. Remember to try rubbing the Gamut point anytime you feel your body go into the stress reaction… you will be pleasantly surprised at the result! Happy tapping from
